WHAT IS AN ONLINE TRAVEL VACATION SCAM?
You see an ad online for a vacation at outrageously cheap prices. Upon leaving for the trip, you find that the hotel accommodation and air travel you paid for were never booked.
Look out for these scam signs
Goods or services advertised at very low prices
These are often placed in bad faith. If it is not a scam per se, there are often unclear terms and conditions attached, which are cause for concern.
The vendor does not clearly identify themselves
A vendor that does not clearly display an address or phone number could be a scammer.
How to stay safe
The Singapore Tourism Board (stb.gov.sg) will tell you if the vendor is an accredited travel agent.
NATAS (natas.org.sg) will tell you what to look out for when planning a trip.
Read all the terms and conditions. Avoid offers that require hidden fees or taxes.
