Don't be taken for a ride
WHAT IS A CAR RENTAL SCAM?
You see a super-cheap deal for a rental car and pay a deposit or the full rental fee before receiving the car. After payment has been made, you discover the car and the agency do not exist.
Look out for these scam signs
Ads with generic photos.
Car rental photos should correspond to the make and model advertised.
Unusually low rates
Watch out for vehicles advertised for much cheaper than the prevailing rate.
How to stay safe
Check the company with ACRA at https://www.bizfile.gov.sg/ngbbizfileinternet/faces/oracle/webcenter/portalapp/pages/BizfileHomepage.jspx to confirm that the company exists.
Insist on documentation of the car rental details and payment.
If you are renting from an individual that you come to know on an online marketplace, ask to see the vehicle and identification documents to verify its ownership.
