Job Scam
I was contacted on Instagram by a woman named Ellie who claimed to be a 28-year-old HR worker. We became friends, and she shared pictures of her daily activities, making me believe she was a genuine person. Eventually, she approached me with a task related to her work contract at Style Tribute. She explained that I needed to transfer money to a merchant account and would receive a refund with a commission to help boost the company's sales and visibility. Despite my initial skepticism, I decided to give it a try, and it worked for a small amount.
However, as the tasks progressed, the third one required me to transfer a significant sum of $12,000. To complete it, I had to borrow money from my friends. Unfortunately, the task faced delays, and I ended up having to pay additional fees to unfreeze the transaction.
Things took a turn when I received a call from customer service, demanding an extra $2,000 for verification purposes before releasing my refund and commission. Sensing something was amiss, I refused to pay and reported the situation to the police. It was later confirmed that I had fallen victim to a scam.
Even after involving the authorities, the woman continued to threaten me. She even sent a picture of policemen to intimidate me. It was a distressing experience, and I lost all the money I had invested, leaving me with the difficult task of slowly repaying my friends.
