PayPal Email Scam

PayPal Email Scam

That PayPal email may not be real

You're selling an item on eBay or Carousell. A buyer agrees to make payment through PayPal. They send you an email that looks like it's from PayPal, stating that the money has been sent. You're asked to provide shipment details or pay an admin fee before the payment can be released. Under the impression that it is a legitimate instruction from PayPal, you mail the item to the scammer or make payments.

Look out for these scam signs

How to stay safe

Always log in to your PayPal account via the app or official website URL to verify that payment has been made before sending the item.
Always verify the authenticity of an email by its contents. If the email sounds threatening, or suspicious, ignore it.

Never click on unknown links in email that looks suspicious.
Unverified email attachments may contain a virus or leave you vulnerable to hacking.
