I received an automated voice message from the mobile number 80127986, informing me that a charge of $4,200 was being made to my POSB account. The message instructed me to press 1 to authorize the charge or press 2 to speak to a representative. I don't have any bank account registered to this new mobile number I got from Singtel, so I thought of playing around and just pressed 1 to authorize it.

After pressing 1, I spoke to someone on the phone named Benjamin Lee. I told him that I was happy to authorize the charge and didn't want to speak to any representative. He proceeded to lead the conversation, checking the transaction and asking for my details. I asked him to verify my details on their system using my number, and I would confirm if the name was correct. He ended up closing the call.

In hindsight, I should have wasted more of their time by giving a bogus name, but I was busy with work, so I left it that way. It's clearly a scam call because the number used is a mobile number and not the usual landline number that banks use. Be careful out there.
